THE COVER STAR! – 1969 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE
John Gamble’s second serious Chevelle is a real head-turner — it’s not for the purists, but it is undeniably badass
It was only meant to be a quick and dirty build using the cheap 307 Powerglide 1969 Chevelle that he found on Facebook Marketplace. But when the owner of Real Rides Ltd is one of your best mates, it does become a bit easier to ‘accidentally’ end up with a flawlessly executed muscle car build.
WINNING COMES EASY – 1956 CHEVROLET BEL AIR SPORTS COUPE
Brent Shipman didn’t set out to build a trophy winner but couldn’t bring himself to change his trophy-hauling ways!
Brent Shipman’s ’56 Chev was never intended to be this good. In fact, if it hadn’t been for the success of his wife June’s Chev Cameo, the build may not have even happened. We’re not saying that he was out to one-up his wife, not at all; it’s just that he did such a good job building her pickup that there was no way he could ever be happy with how bad the ’56 drove in comparison.
THE BRUCE AND DENNY SHOW – 1972 MCLAREN M8E/F
Sporting an 8.3-litre McLaren Chevrolet big-block V8, this 1972 McLaren M8E/F is a Can-Am survivor that still pumps out awe inspiring figures – weighing in at just 646kg, and making north of 800hp
However, in 1966, a young Kiwi came knocking at the Yanks’ door with his own car and would show them up like nobody had done before.
Tony Witinitara’s Premier might have the aerodynamics of a brick wall, but with 2000hp pushing it, the numbers don’t lie!
It only seems like yesterday that we last took an in-depth look at Tony Witinitara’s formidable HZ Premier. At the time, the car had undergone yet another transformation, chasing that elusive eight-second pass — all while retaining its street-legal status. Having owned the car for 16 years by then, Tony had overseen its evolution from a mid-14-second cruiser to one of the country’s quickest street cars; and he’s just recently broken the seven-second barrier.
SINGULAR VISION – 1969 FORD MUSTANG BUILT BY ‘MUSTANGS TO FEAR’
One Kiwi’s six-year mission to create a new Mustang the world hadn’t seen – and won’t forget
You’re looking at the first ’Mustangs To Fear’ Mustang ever built for New Zealand, and the only one that will ever exist on Kiwi roads. Who the hell is MTF you ask? Well, you might know them if you’re into your Mustangs, but even then, it’s not a huge outfit; so don’t feel bad if you haven’t bumped into them before. Essentially, MTF is a dedicated crew of Mustang maniacs based in Rochester, Indiana, and they’ve really done something special here with Craig Borland’s car.
