It may be a cliché, but good things do take time. Steve Walsh’s ute definitely falls into that category. Believe it or not, it started life as a panel van rather than the ute you see parked in his shed. With the panel van coming with 308 cubic inches of Waltzing Matilda’s finest under the bonnet hooked up to a trusty Trimatic trans, it was just what Steve was after — until he used it to tow a mate’s T-bucket up to Thunder Park. Steve got bitten by the drag racing bug, and when the big heavy lump of Aussie tin managed to amble its way down the legendary quarter-mile in a whopping 16 seconds, Steve climbed out of the van with a grin that could have easily been mistaken for a ‘six-second grin’. The damage was done; he was well and truly hooked.
