Preregistration is now open for the 2016 Hibiscus Rodders Beach Festival, which takes place in Orewa over January 29–31. Better still, car owners who preregister get an extra chance to win a six-night trip for two to Los Angeles.
Organizers are expecting the seventh annual beach festival, to be bigger and better than ever — a big statement for what’s already grown into a highlight of the annual event calendar, as you can see from our 2015 coverage.
The event has evolved every year from its humble beginning as a small one-day event, and Hibiscus Rodders club president Dave Swan hopes the upcoming event will outstrip even the highly successful 2015 three-day event held last January, which raised $30,000 for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust and saw hundreds of vehicles strutting their stuff on the Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.
The show is open to pre-1975 cars, or any of American origin, and car numbers are limited to 500 on any given day to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Show Coordinator Sharon Morris says the 2016 show will include hot rods in the park on Friday evening, followed by a drive-in movie, then the main beach festival event will be held at the Orewa Reserve on Saturday, plus Saturday evening events, including a thunder cruise. On Sunday, a show ’n’ shine on Orewa’s main street will be followed by a cruise to the North Harbour Country Club at Dairy Flat for lunch and entertainment.
“We’ve got some fantastic sponsors, including Air Tahiti Nui and House of Travel, who have once again given us a trip prize,” says Morris. “Some lucky person will win a USA getaway, with six nights’ accommodation in Los Angeles and four days’ hire of a Mustang convertible.”
All beach festival entrants will get an entry into the prize draw with their goodie bag at the gate, but car owners who preregister before midnight on Sunday, January 17, will automatically get an extra entry with their festival pack and programme. Passengers and members of the public can also buy programmes at the event to enter the prize draw.
“We’ll have lots of other great prizes up for grabs, and 2016’s event will also see the introduction of an exciting new contest: Miss Hibiscus Vintage,” Morris says
