From the time entrants are welcomed into what can only be described as a village to the time they depart on Sunday, entrants and spectators can expect a high-octane blend of activities drawing from its creators’ passion and desire to bring together all their favourite event experiences over the years. Starting with a night cruise on Friday evening — which is open to all makes and models, ensuring that everyone can join in the fun and providing an open-road chance to view the cars on the move — entrants begin a full weekend featuring as much seat time as drivers can handle. Last year saw well over 150 cars taking to the streets, including the popular and always spectacular lowriders. Imagine a twilight setting, the roar of engines, and a convoy of diverse vehicles cruising together. Saturday’s activities are based at Meremere Drag Way.
Expect to see tyre smoke heading sideways as competitors hit the popular Light ‘Em Up Lane and do a controlled rolling skid, while the horsepower boys and girls will be giving their all in the drag racing. In between, enjoy a bite to eat, browse the retro markets and check out the cars hardparked in between sessions. The weekend’s centrepiece is, without a doubt, the Summernats Pro Burnout series qualifier, which boasts the only two direct entry passes available in NZ to the finals at Summernats 37 in Australia. With rewards such as flights, accommodation allowances, surface shipping for vehicles, and tickets to the grand final, the stakes are higher than ever. Plus, the competition will be fierce, promising a showdown of epic proportions. Not to mention, the world’s wildest motorsport makes its appearance, with one wildcard car selected to be featured in the Burnout Masters Game. Sunday shifts gears with a focus on track activities at Hampton Downs.
In response to entrant requests, a full day of track cruising has been planned, allowing participants to experience the thrill of the racing circuit, with sessions added in for roll race, power skid, and other demonstrations. The show cars will be in full bling mode alongside trader alley, while the popular and highly competitive Miss AutoFest pageant will be fought out over three rounds, showcasing style, elegance, and automotive passion, and the Show & Shine promising a stunning display of automotive artistry. AutoFest’s charm lies in its ability to bring together car enthusiasts from all walks of life.
Whether you’re there to showcase your prized vehicle, witness the adrenaline-pumping races, or simply soak in the automotive atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.
