Formed by hardened nostalgia drag racers, NZ Vintage Gas is a new class in New Zealand that looks to the gassers of the ’50s and ’60s — cars with jacked up fronts and lowered rears for weight transfer under launch. Big burnouts, dry hops, and wheelstands were a staple — the kinds of things crowds flocked in to see — and all the cars were known by the names emblazoned on their sides. NZ Vintage Gas is about replicating those good ol’ days, with an aim to make drag racing fun again — for both the public and the drivers! The class creates a friendly, competitive environment with smiles, banter, and serious drag racing all mixed together — the organizers have even said visitors are feel free to head into the pits to say ‘hi’.
The first event to run the new NZ Vintage Gas class will go down as part of Dragstalgia at Masterton Motorplex, 5–6 January.
