The latest and greatest issue of NZV8 (August, Issue No. 135) is hot off the presses, and will be appearing on shelves throughout the country today. Here’s a little teaser of what you can expect!
This issue’s cover car certainly deserves all the praise it gets — the famous ‘Hollywood Nights’ ’57 Chev Bel Air from the ’80s has been reborn as a modern-day showstopper. Read all about how this custom-chassis’d, 502ci big block–powered tourer made it to completion, against all odds.
Then there’s Steve Walsh’s iconic Holden ‘One Tonne’ ute — a vehicle that’s recognized across the country, thanks to its eyeball-frying green hue and stack of chrome coming out the bonnet. It’s taken 30 years for Steve to build the Aussie-style street machine of his dreams, and now he’s got it, he ain’t looking back.
We’ve also got event coverage of the Nagoya Speed and Custom Show, and a bonus image gallery here if the magazine article left you wanting more. If you didn’t know just how well the Japanese build traditional American hot rods, low-riders, and kustoms, you’re about to learn …
For a collection a little closer to home, we get an inside look at what’s got to be one of the coolest sheds we’ve featured — Frank and Maree Wilson’s collection that’ll have any petrolhead green with envy. You can see a little more of the collection here.
And, for Kiwi ingenuity, you can’t look past Graham Steel’s ‘DATRAT’ hot rod, and you can get a closer look here. While it is a rat rod in appearance, it would be a grave mistake to write it off as a ‘just another rat rod’. This thing is better built than a lot of cars we’ve seen, and styled the way Graham wanted it to be — if you don’t like it, Graham couldn’t care less.
