Start winter right with NZV8 Issue No. 133

27 May 2016

NZV8 Issue No. 133 has hit shelves! Check out what you have to look forward to:

This month’s cover car is nothing short of perfection — amazing, given it was almost entirely rust before the build began. With 502 cubes of big block Chev under the bonnet, a full Roadster Shop chassis underneath, and luxuriously appointed interior, Steve Haddock has got the ultimate grand tourer. Many people talk about building their cars to drive, but Steve just gets on with it, and has the stone chips to prove it.

And Christchurch bloke Mike Blackmore has a similar touring machine, albeit one that will do the Blue Oval supporters proud. While the build was punctuated by the destructive Canterbury quakes, Mike’s Falcon has turned out the better for it — with a Boss quad-cam V8, modern RRS underpinnings, and immaculate detailing through and through, it’s a sure winner.

The pair of Hawaiian-built hot rods curated by Laurie Urlich is another gem we’re proud to be able to display in the magazine. Both the ’32 Ford five-window coupe and the ’31 Model A roadster were built in Hawaii in the early ’50s, as prominent features of Hawaii’s growing hot rod scene. Read up on their origins, and how they came to be in pristine condition on the other side of the globe, in the latest issue of NZV8.

And we’ve got Andrew Pratt’s beautifully finished VB Commodore, a lesson in function over form. It may look like a mellow ’80s-styled street car, but this road rocket hides a host of performance and handling upgrades beneath the subtle aero add-ons and classic Simmons rims. It’s tough, it’s built right, and it’s beyond unassuming.
