The Porter Hire International Sprintcar series spoils are crossing the Tasman, with Perth-based Robbie Farr taking individual honours for his ECP Racing team, while teammate James McFadden claimed the WXC Western Springs single-lap record on Saturday, December 13, showing just how talented both are behind the wheel.
With constant drizzle a factor throughout the evening, it was amazing to even see the meeting start, and those who did brave the conditions were treated to a number of tumbles and spills.
The test series was close in the end, with the Kiwi team of Dean Brindle, 2NZ, and Jamie McDonald, 3NZ, being just one point shy thanks to consistent performances. It will have been a good tune up for both as they set sights on the 1NZ tail tank.
The Aussie visitors claimed the test-match race wins that made the difference; the odds would have been on Farr to go three from three feature race wins had the Auckland rain not beaten everyone and caused the meeting to be abandoned.
It was a treat for fans to see international calibre sprint car talent on show at their local track, and the folks who made it happen need to be congratulated. Driving with the best seemed to lift the game of the locals, and the likes of Michael Pickens, 54A, and Daniel Eggleton, 78A, are sure to keep getting better and better as they battle for supremacy with US driver Jonathan Allard, 0USA, who calls the springs home for the season.
Also named on the night was the New Zealand Midget Car Team. Former NZ Champion Shane Alach returns to the New Zealand squad in the Powder Coating Co 11A, and will be the captain of the team. He’s returning for the upcoming midget car test series to be held at WXC Western Springs Speedway, starting on December 27, 2014.
Alach is joined by regular team pick Brad Mosen, in the Mobil 1 Esslinger 7A out of the BSL racing team, and debutante Hayden Williams, in the Century Batteries 3NZ car run by HLR Racing. For the three drivers a considerable challenge awaits in the form of visiting American and Australian drivers who all do a large amount of laps almost year round.
